Director runs on your Mac. Your recordings and projects never leave it. Here is everything we do collect, and why. Last updated 28 September 2026.

In the app

• Your work stays on your Mac. Recording, transcription, translation, sound and export all happen on it. We never receive your recordings, projects, transcripts or captions.
• No analytics and no tracking. The app does not report how you use it.
• Licence activation. When you enter a licence key, the app sends our licence server the key, an anonymous identifier of your Mac (a one-way hash of its hardware ID — the ID itself never leaves the Mac) and the Mac's name, so you can tell your Macs apart when freeing one. The app checks the licence again about once a day while it runs, sending the same key and identifier.
• Updates. About once a day the app downloads the list of available versions from our update server, and downloads an update when there is one.
• Like any request on the internet, these reach our servers with your IP address and a standard user agent naming the app's version and macOS.

When you buy

Stripe processes the payment as merchant of record. It collects your email address, your payment details and your billing country, under Stripe's privacy policy. We never see your card number. Stripe tells us your email address and the purchase, which we keep with your licence so we can send you the key, resend it if you lose it, and handle refunds.

Email

Your licence key is emailed to you when you buy. We send no newsletters or marketing. If you write to support, we keep the conversation to answer you.

This website

getdirector.app sets no cookies and loads no analytics or tracking scripts. It is served by Cloudflare, which handles requests to it like any web host.

Who processes it

• Stripe — payments, tax and receipts.
• Cloudflare — the website, update downloads, and sending the licence email.
• Our licence server — licences and the Macs they are active on.

We do not sell or share your information with anyone else.

How long we keep it

A licence and its email address are kept for as long as the licence exists, and as long as the law requires for records of a sale. The Macs a licence has been activated on are kept with it, marked as deactivated when you free one.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted (deleting a licence ends it). Email support@getdirector.app from the address you bought with.
